Athlete’s endorsements rights

February 15, 2024

For the 2019 World Championships, the federation in question required athletes to sign a code of conduct. This code of conduct entailed sponsorship limitations and image rights restrictions. Commercial obligations were imposed on the athletes. The limitations in place interfered with the athletes’ existing sponsorship deals and implied that the athletes would lose out on commercial opportunities.

We were able to achieve a fast and thorough out-of-court solution by a measured intervention that allowed the athletes in question to compete in the 2019 World Championships without being obliged to sign the code of conduct. The commercial interests of the athletes were not affected.
