ATFIELD successfully assists the Association francophone de Tennis

October 20, 2023

We are delighted to have assisted the Association francophone de Tennis (AFT) with the confirmation of its recognition as the official padel federation in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

In November 2022, the Wallonia-Brussels Federation ’ s sports minister confirmed that the AFT was the official padel federation until the end of 2024.

AFP, an opposing party, lodged an administrative petition with the Wallonia-Brussels Federation ’ s sports minister, along with a legal appeal to the Supreme Administrative Court of Belgium (Conseil d’Etat).

Our Atfield team has assisted AFT during these proceedings, which has resulted in two positive outcomes for AFT:

  1. In March 2023, the Supreme Administrative Court of Belgium rejected AFP’ s appeal.
  2. Yesterday the Wallonia-Brussels Federation ’ s sports minister confirmed that AFT will remain the official padel federation until the end of 2024.

The sports minister’s decision was made after carrying out a comparative analysis of AFT and AFP regarding fulfilling recognition criteria (including: club representation as well as representation at national and international levels, transparency and cost-sharing aspects, training programmes for sports executives, etc.)
